Itinerary

Meeting Point: JORVIK Precinct & The River Waterfront. Gather outside the JORVIK Viking Centre where the ancient settlement was uncovered. Explore the riverfront where Norse fleets arrived, pass the shadow of the Norman Castle Keep, and discover how Norse invaders seized the thriving Anglo-Saxon city of Eoforwic in 866 AD, transforming it into Jórvík—the bustling capital that would shape the North until the climax of 1066.**Please note we are not affiliated with the Jorvik Viking Centre, we merely meet close by. Admission to the Jorvik Viking Centre is not included; we do not enter the premises during our tour though you may wish to consider a visit before or after your Viking Walk as the tour was written to compliment the attraction.**

The Royal Quarter, Viking Legends & The Meat Market. Gather in the ancient royal precinct of the Viking kings—the site of the Northumbrian royal court. Hear the dark legends of Ragnar Lothbrok's pit of snakes, the terrible vengeance meted out to King Ælla, and the saga of Eric Bloodaxe and Egil Skallagrimsson. Then, trace the ancient butcher stalls of the historic meat market to discover daily trade and life in Jórvík.

Fortifications, The Summer Army & Norse Streetscapes. Examine the ancient city ramparts adapted by Viking occupiers to secure their new capital.
