Itinerary

Meeting Point: Museum Gardens & Roman Defensive Towers. Meet at the main entrance gates before stepping into the gardens to examine two extraordinary surviving Roman military structures: the massive Multangular Tower and the late 4th-century defensive tower. See authentic masonry laid by the Ninth and Sixth Legions and explore how Rome reinforced its northern fortress in the twilight of the empire.

Bootham Bar & Defensive Ramparts. Explore the site of the ancient Porta Principalis Dextra—the Roman North Gate. Walk along portions of the medieval defenses raised directly upon the original Roman military ramparts.

The Principia, Constantine Statue & Roman Column. Stand in the heart of imperial Eboracum—the site of the ancient fortress headquarters, the Principia. View the authentic Roman column recovered from beneath the Minster, the iconic statue of Constantine the Great, and hear how imperial history was made on this spot.

The Roman Baths Museum (Admission Included). Finish your tour with included entry into the Roman Baths Museum. Descend beneath the modern city to explore the excavated remains of the legionary bathhouse caldarium, where Roman soldiers relaxed, socialized, and bathed on the edge of the empire.
