Fátima, Óbidos and Nazaré Tour from Sintra, Portugal
On this tour, we hit three very different Portuguese villages - Fátima, Nazaré, Óbidos. You will see the most important monuments of Portuguese architectural heritage, meet the grande caves, enjoy the liquor tasting and witness the variety of cultural and religious symbols along with enjoying impeccable scenery!
Fátima is a city in the center of Portugal that houses the Sanctuary of Fatima, a place of Catholic pilgrimage. The Chapel of the Apparitions marks where the Virgin Mary was alleged to have appeared in 1917. Other sacred sites include the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary with its golden angels and the modern Church of the Holy Trinity. Fatima has a factory where religious objects are created and restored nationally. It is a place with the most remarkable variety of religious articles and all kinds of devout accessories.
Leaving Fatima, we will stop at The Caves of Moeda, which are limestone caves located near the Cova da Iria in the city of Fatima. This visit includes a liquor tasting. The peninsula of Nazaré, where the lighthouse is located, separates this place into two very different beaches. The South Beach is a quiet one, and it is the main beach of Nazareth. The North Beach has a much braver temperament - a giant wave generator where the sea offers enormous waves!
Our last spot will be the medieval village of Óbidos - one of Portugal's most picturesque and well-preserved villages. In 2007, the Castle of Óbidos was declared the second of the seven most important monuments of Portuguese architectural heritage (Seven Wonders of Portugal contest). On 11 December 2015, UNESCO considered Óbidos a literary city (Creative Cities Network program).
You can go inside the monuments (considering the closing time) or take exterior pictures if you want to stay outside. This may change the estimated time for the end of the tour.
