Vysehrad Castle Walking Tour
Uncover more than a thousand years of history with this tour of Vysehrad! On a rocky hilltop overlooking the Vltava River, this beautiful castle was constructed in the tenth century and served as the royal palace until 1140. Within its ancient walls, there is much to see. Ancient Vysehrad Castle is one of the main attractions of Prague. It is an amazingly romantic and mysterious place, with many legends and mysteries. Vysehrad means "High Castle" because this castle, built in the 10th century, is located on a high rock and is not easy to climb. However, Vysehrad is worth a visit for the panoramic views of Prague from the observation deck around the castle grounds.
You'll find many important pieces of history within the walls of the old city of Vysehrad. You will see an actual medieval fort built to protect the roads leading to Prague. Along with Prague Castle, Vysehrad Castle, located on the other side of the Vltava, became the second center where the history of the Czech state originated. Over the centuries, the castle has lost a lot of its buildings. Today, these places daily attract tourists wishing to touch ancient shrines.
