The tour will begin in Yerevan, Armenia's capital city, where your private driver/guide will meet you and take you on a memorable journey to Garni and Geghard. Your first stop of the day will be Garni Temple, which is an unusual example of an Armenian pagan temple. But before you go to Garni Temple, you can stop at the famous Charents Arch, which has a great view of Mount Ararat (if the weather is good).
Garni Temple stands majestically on a high plateau above the Azat River canyon, with breathtaking views. You can see the Greek-Roman bathhouse, which has a mosaic made of 30,000 pieces of natural stone, and the remains of the royal palace from the third century AD.
Following that, you will visit the one and only Geghard Monastery complex, which has several churches and tombs, most of which are cut into the rock and represent the pinnacle of Armenian medieval architecture. The medieval buildings' complex is in a stunning natural location at the entrance to the Azat Valley, flanked by towering cliffs. The monuments there date from the fourth to the thirteenth centuries. In the year 2000, it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Geghard is also well-known for housing relics, including the spear that wounded Christ on the cross. At the end of the tour, your driver will take you back to Yerevan.
