In essence, the Garni pagan temple is a structure that is neither temporal nor conceptual. It is Armenia's only fully restored pagan and Hellenistic architectural monument. Garni itself is located 30 kilometers from Yerevan, and our visit to it will include the following:
Visits to architectural masterpieces.
An introduction to Armenia's incredible nature.
The opportunity to eat delicious food and converse with interesting locals.
The temple was erected in honor of Mithras, the sun god. It was built by King Trdat in the second half of the second century and served as the Armenian kings' summer residence. Near the temple, the ruins of an ancient fortress, royal chambers, and a bathhouse from the third century have been preserved. It has a beautiful view of the Azat River and the Garni Gorge. The only things they have in common are a close geographical location and an interest in the Armenian people's cultural heritage.
A short hike will take us to the Garni gorge, where we can see a true natural wonder - the "Symphony of Stones," or "Basalt Organ." The hexagonal pillars of extinct lava hanging from the cliff are the "Symphony of Stones." Natural symmetry intrigues and draws the eye. You can also hire an off-road vehicle to take you down the gorge if you so desire. The tour is intended for tourists of all ages and tastes.
