This trip will take you back in time to the first days of Mauritius with its rich colonial history and you will get a chance to see the greatest plantations, observe the process of tea growing and production and taste the best sorts of teas and rum. First a Visit in the town of Cure pipe is one of the main commercial centers of the island– typically regarded as second-most to Port Louis – and thus has a generous smattering of shops. Then head to the Trou aux Cerfs Volcano. This huge natural volcanic crater, 85m deep and 200m wide, was formed millions of years ago.
See the famous “Domaine des Aubineaux” and its gardens. It is a colonial house built in 1872 by the owner of the Bois Chéri plantations, the first and biggest tea producer in Mauritius. After the visit to the house, you will walk in the Camphor garden with its exotic trees from the endemic forest and you will surely enjoy the beautiful sight of the tea plantation. Then you will be invited for a tea break.
On a guided tour of the Bois Chéri factory you will discover the history of tea production. Nowadays it produces a new range of flavored teas, green and herbal teas. You may taste teas during your visit, while enjoying a great panoramic view of the beautiful south of the island.
Continue your tour to the 19th century Saint Aubin house. See the plantation of vanilla orchid and Anthurium flowers as well as the manufacture of rum at the distillery and taste it on the spot! Finally enjoy a nice vanilla chicken for lunch in the balcony of the Saint Aubin Colonial House
