Yerevan Attractions Meet Northern Armenia Nature

Yerevan attractions set the context for this tour, but the real experience begins once you leave the city behind and get to Armenias green north. Starting from Yerevan, this tour feels like an essential extension of Yerevan sightseeing, designed for travelers who want more than museums and cafes. You drive past Lake Sevan, one of the worlds highest freshwater lakes, then slow down in Dilijan, often called the Armenian Switzerland for its forests and relaxed rhythm. From there, the journey becomes more immersive, hiking toward Lastiver, a canyon landscape of caves, waterfalls, and dense greenery. Compared to classic things to do in Yerevan, this experience shifts the focus from urban attractions to raw nature, offering a balance many visitors miss. It is one of those places to visit that turns a short trip into something memorable and deeply connected to Armenia.

Practical Tips Before You Go

This experience combines driving and hiking, so preparation matters

  • Wear sturdy walking shoes for canyon trails
  • Bring layers, northern Armenia can feel cooler
  • Summer is lush, spring and autumn are ideal seasons
  • Hiking is moderate, suitable for active beginners
  • A small backpack helps during the walk
  • Cameras are essential near waterfalls and caves
With these tips, the day flows easily and stays enjoyable.

More Facts About This Experience

Lake Sevan frequently appears in international travel documentaries and Armenian films as a symbol of national identity, including scenes in Sergei Parajanov inspired cinema. Dilijan gained pop culture fame after the Armenian movie Mimino, where a famous line about Dilijan restaurants turned the town into a cultural reference across the former Soviet Union. Lastivers caves and forest paths have been featured in local adventure films and travel shows highlighting Armenias wild side. Music videos by Armenian indie artists are often filmed in Dilijan forests, drawn by the soft light and misty scenery. These places are not just scenic, they are woven into modern Armenian pop culture and visual storytelling.

Experiences That Complement This Route

After returning to Yerevan, many travelers add a Daily Authors Excursion in Yerevan to understand the citys major attractions, history, and culture. A Personalized Walking Tour around the main sights of Yerevan helps connect Northern Avenue, Republic Square, the Cascade, and Vernissage. Exploring Kond, the oldest neighborhood of Yerevan, adds contrast between urban life and the natural landscapes you experienced earlier.
