The city of Shemakha is 135 km from Baku (2.5 hours drive). Shemakha is an ancient city, it is at least 2000 years old, so perhaps it remembers not only the Sassanids, but also the Achaemenids. Today Shemakha, as hundreds of years ago, is a lively and crowded place, a major administrative center of the country. Ancient artifacts here organically fit into the urban landscape, and romantic legends peacefully coexist with the latest urban news. Here you can see the medieval fortress, the largest mosque in Azerbaijan Juma Mosque, stroll through the narrow streets of bazaars, buy a couple of bottles of local wine, and maybe a magnificent Shemakhan carpet (here is the oldest center of their production).
Diri Baba Mausoleum. The excursion starts with a tour of the main center of attraction of the ancient city, the impregnable mausoleum of Diri Baba. Once it was its powerful and impregnable walls that hid the Shemakha people from the invasion of enemies of the Shirvanshah dynasty. After visiting the mausoleum we will go to drink wine.
Visit and tasting at Meysari winery. Meysari complex has a restaurant by the lake: Abgora, where you can have lunch.
