canal. It’s around 1 hour driving until Ancient Corinth. Just before our arrival there, we will make a small stop at Corinth canal. Right there is the entrance to the Peloponnese and the view from there is magnificent. It is an artificial canal that separates the Peloponnese from Attica and allows ships to cross the Aegean Sea. It was built in 1890, but the plans for its completion already existed from 5th century BC.

It was finally destroyed by the Roman invaders in 146 BC, but Julius Caesar decided to re-establish the city in 44 BC, because he considered it of strategic importance. All the conquerors of Greece passed through here and have left their traces: Byzantines, Franks, St John knights of Rhodes, Venetians and finally the Turks. It is therefore obvious that this is an extremely historic place, which is definitely worth a visit.
