Multi-Day Tours in Naples

Multi-day tours in Naples are rarely about Naples alone. The city is the doorway and the bay is the house: a week often starts at the airport, passes Pompeii on the way in, then moves the suitcase every two or three nights. Sorrento is the common first base, the Amalfi Coast the second, the islands the third: Capri about half an hour from Sorrento by ferry, Ischia an hour to an hour and a half from Naples, Procida in between. Naples often returns at the end for a night, a street-food walk and a pizza lesson.

The themes differ more than the map. One week is Roman and volcanic: Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius. Another walks the Amalfi footpaths, the Path of the Gods, Monte Tre Calli and the old paper-mill valley, then Capri's coastal forts. A third is thermal, built on Ischia's Negombo and Poseidon gardens. The food weeks add a mozzarella and limoncello farm near Sorrento, or lemon groves above Maiori. Booked for a date, they include four-star hotels, breakfast and transfers. Most are private, with one car and driver, and a guide only on the days that need one; the thermal week has none. The short option is a four-day small-group stay in Naples with a guided evening walk, Pompeii and Herculaneum, and a pizza class. You reach the hotel yourself.

Practical. Hikes and boat days suit April to June and September to October. July and August afternoons in Naples reach 30C and 31C. Itineraries can change for weather, and sea crossings to Capri and Ischia are the first to go in rough water. Breakfast is included; lunches, dinners, tips and city tax are not. Several allow one bag a person plus hand luggage, and one asks you to land before 15:00 on day one. On most, half the price is forfeited roughly twenty days out, and all of it from nine days out.
