Airport and City Transfers in Vietnam in 2026: Easy Rides, Less Stress

Transfers in Vietnam are the last stretch, not the long haul. Between regions most travellers fly, and what remains is the road from the airport or the train station to the hotel. This is mostly a northern business. Noi Bai airport is about 45 minutes from the Old Quarter by car, Ha Long Bay is a highway run of two and a half to three hours, and the sleeper train to Sapa leaves from Hanoi. Elsewhere it is thinner: Cam Ranh airport has a private transfer to Nha Trang, about 45 minutes.

The formats follow the road. Private cars come with 4, 7 or 16 seats on request. Limousine buses run Hanoi to Ninh Binh in about two hours, and Hanoi to Sapa, about 320 km and six hours with two short stops. A bus and speed boat combination reaches Cat Ba Island, about 160 km, in three and a half hours. Sapa has no airport. The sleeper train leaves Hanoi around 22:00, reaches Lao Cai in 7.5 to 8.5 hours, then it is a further hour by road, up to 1,600 metres. You can take a private cabin, with 2 or 4 berths, or a shared one. A seaplane hop over Ha Long Bay sits in the same group, but it is sightseeing, not a way of getting anywhere.

Practical. Give your flight number or train number when booking; the driver waits with a name sign. Some airport transfers add a night surcharge between 22:00 and 05:00. Cars, buses and the boat to Cat Ba are normally free to cancel until the day before; train tickets are final sale, and are collected about an hour before departure. In the north, winter is 10 to 20C with drizzle, and typhoons from June to November can stop the boats.
