Argentina's entertainment culture is one of the most sophisticated and most diverse in Latin America. Buenos Aires' Teatro Colón — considered one of the five greatest opera houses in the world for its acoustics and one of the most beautiful for its Belle Époque interior — stages a full opera, ballet, and classical music season. The tango, originating in the working-class conventillos of Buenos Aires and Montevideo in the 1880s, is still performed in milongas (tango dance salons) across the city every night of the week — the real milonga experience, with social dancing and live orquesta típica, is entirely different from tourist tablao performances. The Cosquín Folk Festival, the La Serena jazz festival circuit, and the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) extend the entertainment geography across the country.
