Pidurangala Rock dominates the landscape with its distinct silhouette. Located down a dusty gravel track, the Pidurangala monastery, one of the several rock shelter monasteries in the country, was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th Century A.D. Sigiriya is known for its glamor and is often viewed in awe of the intricate fortress design being a monastery for Buddhist monks who used to meditate. The lower levels of the later converted rock fortress and the surrounding area were used as meditating grounds by the monks and the caves were made as shelter. You will find out many interesting things about spices and herbs in the Ayurvedic herbal garden.
