Corleone the Godfather Origins of Mafia Tour
Firstly we will visit Portella della Ginestra, visit places of the massacre, then Piana degli Albanesi where you can taste the famous typical Sicilian sweet cannoli, after that we will leave for the Ficuzza forest reserve and have lunch in that area. After lunch we will visit the village of Corleone, the Mafia Museum and the places that gave rise to the protagonist of the famous novel and film The Godfather Don Vito Corleone. We will visit the places of the massacre of the workers of Portella della Ginestra which took place on 1 May 1947 by the criminal gang of Salvatore Giuliano, suddenly from Mount Pelavet left numerous bursts of machine guns on the cheering crowd, which lasted for about a quarter of an hour. Fourteen people died plus about thirty were injured. A month after the massacre, attacks with machine guns and hand grenades were carried out by the bandit Salvatore Giuliano who urged the population to rebel against communism. After that we will go to "La Real Casina di Caccia" which was built in the woods of Ficuzza as a royal palace, starting from 1799 by the will of King Ferdinand III of Sicily as a summer residence to be used for hunting. It is characterized by its rectangular and severe facade. Ferdinand of Bourbon lived there continuously from 1810 to 1813 and it became a favorite holiday destination for the nobility of Palermo.
