Full description

Begin your descent at the base of Rui Vaz after an early pickup from your accommodation. Your first stop is a panoramic viewpoint from about 800 meters altitude, granting you unforgettable views and photo opportunities over the Valley of São Jorge, and the Pico D'Antónia summit. Then, your descent begins with pleasant landscapes of uneven hills and Santiago Island’s highest mountain with 1394 meters of altitude. Next, walk among the local houses carved into the Longueira's mountain, meet a local family and get to know their daily life. Try a mini-sampling of Cape Verde delicacies during the trek, with some local food and local fruit both up for tasting. After your hiking adventure, head back to Praia, where your tour will conclude.

Pick up at the Hotel

Rui Vaz. Start your trek from the Village of Rui Vaz, from about 800 meters altitude, where you will have the opportunity to experience direct contact with the locals. There, get in touch with local farmers and learn about their agricultural practices growing sugar cane, mango trees, cassava, banana and more. From the Rui Vaz you can enjoy a panoramic view of the São Jorge Valley, and Pico D'Antónia Mountain, the highest point on the island of Santiago. Take the opportunity to admire Maio Island and experience the production of a local rum-making distillery (The Rum production season runs from January 1 st to May 31st) in Longueira village. Enjoy 4 hours of walking with a stop for a small picnic and panoramic views of beautiful landscapes.
