Pompeii is located on a lava terrace overlooking the Sarno river valley. For hundreds of years after the eruption of Mount Vesuvio in 79 AD, Pompeii remained buried and forgotten. The village is considered one of the world's marvels, and excavations that began in the 18th century are ongoing. The tour will lead you through some of Pompei's old alleys, where you can visit Baths, Forums, and Villas erected by the Romans in 80 BC. Furthermore, the exceptionally well-maintained Frescos that decorated the walls and floors of the Villas will be on display.
You will be picked up at your hotel or meeting location and driven to Pompeii. During this 2-hour guided tour, you will see the important public monuments and some of the Pompeii ruins' residences. You will stop for lunch at a local eatery for a delectable Neapolitan feast.
The second part of the tour will take you to Herculaneum, which was drowned by a torrent of mud and lava that solidified into a soft tufa (a kind of coarse rock) that saved many of the wooden elements of buildings and household furnishings that may still be seen today in pristine condition. Return to the hotel or meeting spot after visiting Sorrento.
