Entertainment in Larnaca

Entertainment in Larnaca splits into the seagoing and the rural, and both formats are built for a group rather than a single traveller. The seagoing one is a sailing yacht taken whole for four hours. The boat leaves the marina along the Finikoudes promenade, anchors in a quiet bay east of town, drinks and snacks are on board and the music is yours to choose. In effect it is a party on the water, only with swimming and without neighbours through the wall.

The rural format is more unexpected. Half an hour from town, next to Lefkara, a camel park operates: the animals were brought to Cyprus in the nineties, and now they are fed by hand and give children rides, with ostriches and donkeys kept alongside. Lefkara itself is a step away — narrow stone streets, silver workshops and the lace the village has been famous for since Venetian times. A winery is usually included in the same trip.

Practical notes. Yachts for weekends and sunsets are taken in advance, a week ahead in summer. There is almost no shade on deck, so sunscreen and a hat are needed even in the evening. In the park the animals are approached only with the keeper's permission and never fed with your own food. In summer it is hotter inland than on the coast, so village programmes are better taken in the morning.
