Tour from Tirana to Koman Lake, Valbona and Theth in Albania, Shkodër County

Its history is comparable to that of the famous Aswan High Dam, built in Egypt in the late 1800s. Similarly, Lake Koman was created in the late 1970s by the construction of a dam in Fierza. In 1978, to obtain hydroelectric energy, the dam was built about fifty kilometers from Shkoder. In this way it could take the strength of two rivers: the Drini i Zi and the Drini i Bardhe.

For over forty years, Lake Koman has become a very special part of the natural environment of this area. Here you can find dozens of species of fish, mollusks, crabs, birds, and amphibians.

Day 1: We will leave Tirana at 5:00 am to drive toward the Koman Lake when the ferry departs at 9:00 am to the other side of the lake, Fierza.Our station will be Berisha, a very remote village situated on the shores of the Koman lake. We will be welcomed to sleep with a local family, the only one who had opened their doors to tourists. Kayaking experience and exploration of Koman Lake. Overnight at Berishe.

Day 2: Driving from Fierza to Valbona will needs around 45 minutes, passing through Bajram Curri, the municipally of the area. Lunch break in Valbona and hiking in Kukaj, a very remote area in Valbona Valley surroundings when we will see how the people do their living.

Day 3: Called also the Big Day of the tour the second day is where we will hike from Valbona to Theth following the ancient path that locals had used in years, where back in the days to travel from Valbona to Shkoder was possible only by walking and 2 full days were needed !

Walking on this path we will pass through the oldest part of the village when people are still leaving in their more than 100-year old stone towers. It offers a spectacular view of the long rocky valley mixed with quite, relaxing forest and some traditional cafes for lunch break. Theth will amaze us with its unique nature, history and tradition. Its symbol, the “Lock in Tower” is live proof of the past and history.

Day 4: After breakfast at the Guesthouse, the Gurnas Waterfall is the next attraction. Around 45 minutes walk from the center of the village the round to their pass through most of the village into a soft hilly terrain.

Living Theth behind and driving for around 3 hours we will reach Shkoder, the biggest city of the Albanian North.
