Transfers in Greece

43 expériences

Transfers in Greece solve one constant task — the join between plane, port and hotel. In Athens it is the triangle of airport, Piraeus and city: cruise passengers go from ship to airport or hotel, and a private car with a name board removes the changes with suitcases. In Thessaloniki the same applies between airport, cruise port and centre.

On the islands the transfer is part of the journey itself. On Crete the distances are serious: from Heraklion airport to Rethymno is an hour, to Chania nearly two, and a pre-booked car is a more obvious choice here than a taxi at the exit. On Santorini the road up from the port is a switchback where in season the bus queue is longer than the ferry; on Mykonos and Rhodes transfers are short, but at high season free taxis simply do not exist.

Practical notes. The driver tracks the flight: if the plane is late the meeting shifts without surcharge — that is standard, but confirm when booking. For the return to the airport the car is set with a margin: ferries run late more often than planes. A child seat is ordered in advance, since on the spot there may be none. The price counts per car, not per passenger, so for a family it comes out comparable to the bus, only door to door.
