Shopping in Antalya

Antalya offers a shopping experience that ranges from the thoroughly modern to the genuinely traditional, and the two coexist in close proximity without either diminishing the other. The old bazaar district in Kaleiçi — a network of covered and open-air market lanes around the old harbor — is the natural starting point for traditional purchases: hand-woven carpets and kilims, copperware, ceramics in the Iznik tradition, leather goods, and spices sold from open sacks in quantities that range from a small bag to a kilogram.

The city center has developed a strong modern retail infrastructure, with several large shopping malls — MarkAntalya, TerraCity, and the Mall of Antalya among the most prominent — that house international brands alongside Turkish fashion labels and local food producers. The quality of Turkish leather goods available in the specialist shops around the old town is consistently high, and prices for handmade leather jackets, bags, and shoes remain significantly lower than comparable products in Western Europe.

The weekly market, held in different neighborhoods on different days, is the best place to find local produce and genuinely local goods — the kind of shopping experience that has disappeared from most European cities but survives in Antalya in a form that feels entirely authentic. The surrounding region produces excellent local honey, particularly from the mountain pine forests of the Taurus — darker and more intensely flavored than the standard acacia variety — as well as locally grown saffron from the plateau villages, which is sold at a fraction of the price found in Western markets.
