Sightseeing in Dubai splits into two cities twenty minutes apart. The newer one is vertical: Burj Khalifa reaches 828 metres, with viewing floors at 124, 148 and 154, the Dubai Fountain playing in the lake below, and the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park — a gilded rectangle that puts the low old town on one side of the glass and the towers on the other. The older city is Al Fahidi: coral-block houses and wind towers from the nineteenth century, lanes narrow enough to hold shade, nothing above two storeys.

Half a day links the two. Crossing Dubai Creek by abra costs one dirham and stays the best value in the city; from the Deira bank the gold souk and the spice souk run on through covered lanes. Jumeirah Mosque is the only one here that admits non-Muslims inside, and Palm Jumeirah repays the drive for the scale of the reclamation rather than any single building. Burj Khalifa tickets are timed, and sunset slots go weeks ahead, so fix that hour first.

With more time the map widens: Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque are about ninety minutes down the E11 and sell as one full day, while Sharjah and its museums sit half an hour north. The city works all year, but from June to September anything worth doing is indoors or after sunset, with afternoons past 40°C; November to March is the walking season and the crowded one. When booking, ask whether the deck ticket is included, where pickup happens, and whether the route enters the mosque or passes it.
