Sports in Antalya District | Activity Overview

Antalya has established itself as one of the most versatile sports destinations in the eastern Mediterranean, with a combination of natural conditions and developed infrastructure that supports activities ranging from professional football pre-season training to extreme mountain sports. The mild winter climate — warm enough for outdoor sport year-round — has made the city a preferred base for European football clubs running winter training camps, and the Belek resort area 30 kilometers east hosts some of the finest golf facilities in Europe, with more than ten 18-hole courses designed by leading architects.

The Köprülü Canyon is the regional center for whitewater rafting, offering a full-day experience through a dramatic limestone gorge on the Köprüçay River. The rapids range from Grade 2 to Grade 4 depending on the section and the season, making it accessible to families while still offering a genuine challenge for experienced paddlers. The same canyon is increasingly popular for canyoning — descending the river gorge by swimming, climbing, and abseiling through the rock formations.

Rock climbing in the Taurus Mountains is a growing discipline, with routes of all grades established on the limestone walls above the city. The Geyikbayırı climbing area, 30 kilometers northwest of the city center, has become one of the premier sport climbing destinations in Europe, attracting climbers from across the continent for its warm winter conditions and high concentration of quality routes. Paragliding, jet skiing, scuba diving, and windsurfing complete a sporting menu that makes Antalya genuinely difficult to categorize as simply a beach resort.
