Kursunlu is a walk rather than a viewpoint. The fall measures about eighteen metres, and it is the smaller half of what the gorge offers. The path is the point.

What the gorge holds

A tributary of the Aksu drops off the plateau here and cuts two kilometres of canyon on its way down.

• Seven pools. The water steps down through a chain of terraced basins, each with its own small drop.
• The forest. Red pine above, laurel and plane along the banks, and shade over most of the circuit.
• Wildlife. Terrapins sun themselves on the rocks, frogs carry on below, and birdwatchers bring binoculars.
• Protected ground. The valley was declared a nature park in 1991, with 586 hectares around the fall.

How the visit goes

The circuit is a little over a kilometre of made path and stairs, and an hour is generous. Many people add a picnic. Half a day is the ceiling.

The site lies some twenty kilometres from Antalya, up a side road off the Isparta highway. Tours pair it with Perge, or with the caves above Aksu. Private drivers run that circuit daily.

Practical

• Water level. Heaviest from late winter into May; by August the drop is modest and the pools turn green.
• Swimming. Not permitted in the pools, and the wardens enforce it.
• Shoes. Stone steps stay damp under the canopy and are slick in the shaded sections.
• Timing. Coaches arrive late morning, so opening time is worth the early alarm.
• Food. A cafe and picnic tables sit by the entrance, and nothing at all inside the gorge.
• Winter. Open all year, though the park empties out and the cafe keeps shorter hours.
