Multi-Day Tours in Turkey

Turkey has two multi-day routes, and they overlap neither geographically nor in spirit. The first is Cappadocia from the coast: departures from Antalya, Belek, Side, Kemer and Alanya all follow one scheme, because it is about seven hundred kilometres to the plateau and the road does not fit into a single day. Departure in the evening or early morning, an overnight in a cave hotel, and on the second day the valleys, an underground city and balloons at dawn.

The second route runs west from Istanbul to Troy. This is the case where there is almost nothing to look at and it is still worth going: of Homer's city there remain the foundations of nine layers stacked on one another across three thousand years, and understanding comes not from the view but from the explanation of which layer belongs to which era. The drive takes about five hours each way, so the format exists both as a long single day and with an overnight.

Points to note. Cappadocia lies above a thousand metres: mornings there are around ten degrees even in July, so a warm jacket is needed regardless of the weather on the coast. The balloon flight is a separate option, cancelled on wind. Troy and the Cappadocian valleys hold plenty of uneven stone, so closed shoes only, and on the long transfers anything that keeps you occupied on a coach earns its place.
