We will be able to see Hovanavank Monastery, which is located in the village of Hovanavank, in the Aragatsotn region. The monastery complex is located in a picturesque place near a steep cliff. The main buildings of the monastery were erected in the Middle Ages, but there are also buildings and ruins dating back to the early Christian era. It is believed that the monastery was founded by Gregory the Illuminator, the founder of Christianity in Armenia and the first Armenian Catholicos. It is said that the relics of St. John the Baptist (in Armenian interpretation Hovhannes Mkrtych) were buried on this place. That is why the monastery got its name Hovanavank Hovhannes Temple. We can go to the Saghmosavank Monastery Complex, which is located in the Armenian region of Aragatsotn, on the outskirts of the village of Saghmosavan. The monastery buildings rise above a steep gorge, near the Kasakh River. To the north of Saghmosavan is an ancient cemetery, where you can see many carved cross stones from the 13th-14th centuries (a type of Armenian architectural monuments and shrines, which is a stone stele with a carved image of a cross). We will explore the Amberd Fortress, which was built in the 7th century, during the reign of the Armenian princes of the Kamsarakan dynasty. At first it looked like a small outpost. But with time this construction turned into a well-protected fortress. Kamsarakan dynasty gave this point to another family of Pahlavuni princes. For this dynasty the fortress became a residence for a long time. The monument of the Armenian alphabet is located in Artashavan village of Aragatsotn region, on the western slope of Mount Aragats. The complex was built in 2005, on the occasion of the 1600th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian alphabet. The complex includes sculptures of 39 letters of the Armenian alphabet, as well as monuments of great Armenian thinkers. All letters and statues are made of Armenian tuff. The Armenian language represents a separate branch in the Indo-European language family.
