Things to do in Maranello

Maranello is Ferrari's own town. The museum and the factory sit a few streets apart, and the Fiorano test track runs behind the factory gates. Track access is limited, but a handful of tours drive its perimeter or run a shuttle past it.

Ferrari

The Museo Ferrari holds the road cars and the racing history side by side.

• Museum entry. Road and F1 cars, often combined with the Enzo Ferrari Museum in nearby Modena.
• Racing simulator. A professional-grade F1 simulator sits inside the museum for anyone who wants to drive, not just look.
• Fiorano. Private eco-tours or a panoramic shuttle run the edge of the test track.

Modena, next door

Most of what books here is actually Modena. A short drive away holds balsamic vinegar cellars, the Pavarotti house, and the Panini car collection with its run of Maseratis. Vinegar tours usually end in a tasting, sometimes a full lunch built around it.

• Balsamic vinegar. Real Modena vinegar ages for years in a chain of shrinking wooden barrels.
• Pavarotti House. The tenor's home town museum, a short stop rather than a full afternoon.
• Panini collection. A private run of Maseratis, assembled by one collector over decades.

• Getting there. Maranello and Modena sit a short drive apart; most tours run by car or shuttle.
• Weather. Summer runs hot and humid, past 30C, tough for the Fiorano perimeter tours. Winter brings fog over the plain and nights near freezing; museums stay comfortable indoors year-round.
• Booking ahead. Vinegar cellar visits are small-group and fill up days in advance.
• Vinegar economics. A shared tasting costs a fraction of what a bottle of the aged stuff does.
• Dress. Factory and cellar floors are working spaces; flat shoes are the practical choice.
